Dr. Todd Rau makes patients’ jawlines look defined and sculpted with the help of surgical jawline contouring in Riverside. Jaw contouring procedures can give the face a slimmer appearance and can improve a person’s facial profile.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Ideal candidates for surgical jawline contouring are looking for a long-lasting solution to the poorly defined and sagging look of their jawline. The best candidates for these procedures are in overall good health and have realistic expectations when it comes to results.

Non-smokers are excellent candidates for surgical jawline contouring. Smoking causes a loss of skin elasticity, which can result in new sagging skin on the jawline. Smokers often experience a prolonged recovery period after surgery and are more prone to post-surgical complications.

Your Consultation

During your consultation with Dr. Todd Rau, the two of you will discuss your complete medical history. This will include any medications you are currently taking, any past procedures, and any allergies you have. A physical examination will also be performed. This will ensure that surgical jaw contouring is a safe option for you.

You will tell Dr. Rau your aesthetic needs and goals, and then Dr. Rau will walk you through your options and help you find the right procedure for you. He will create a surgical plan, and then a date will be set for the surgery.

Our Surgical Jawline Contouring Options

Dr. Rau performs a number of different types of surgical jawline contouring procedures, including submental liposuction, chin implants, buccal fat removal, and the neck lift.

Submental Liposuction

The area below the chin is also called the submental region. When excess submental fat forms, it can negatively affect the look of the jawline. Submental liposuction is a way to permanently remove this excess fat, resolving the appearance of a double chin.

During submental lipo, a small incision is made under the chin. A cannula (a thin tube) is inserted, the fat cells are loosened, and then medical suction is used to remove the fatty tissue. This contours the region quite effectively.

Chin Implants

A chin implant can be inserted into the chin in order to add volume, restoring definition to the chin and jawline. Chin implants are typically made of silicone and are shaped to fit the patient’s needs.

At the start of the chin augmentation procedure, anesthesia is administered. Next, a tiny incision is created either under the chin or inside the mouth. A pocket is made for the implant, and then the implant is inserted through the incision into the pocket. Finally, sutures are used to close the incision.

Buccal Fat Removal

Buccal fat pads are sections of fat found in the cheeks. With aging, the buccal fat pads sag, creating chubby cheeks. In many cases, slimming down this area of the face can also resolve the appearance of a poorly defined jawline.

This procedure begins with administration of local anesthesia. A tiny incision is made on the inside of the cheek, and then pressure is administered on the outside of the cheek to reveal the buccal fat pad, which is removed. The incision is closed with sutures.

Neck Lift

A neck lift contours the neck and jawline by removing excess skin and fat and by tightening sagging skin and muscle tissue. This gets rid of a double chin and a turkey-wattle neck, resulting in a contoured jawline.

Anesthesia is administered, followed by small incisions behind the ears and/or below the chin. Excess skin is trimmed away with a scalpel, and excess fat is removed using liposuction. The platysma muscles are rejoined and tightened with internal sutures. Finally, incisions are closed with sutures.

The Healing Process

Once your surgical jawline contouring procedure is complete and you have returned home, it will be time to rest and recover. During your recovery period, it will be vital to closely follow Dr. Rau’s post-surgical care instructions. This will ensure a more comfortable recovery process with a minimized chance of complications.

The healing process differs from patient to patient based on the chosen procedure and the specific details of their case. Generally, bruising and swelling will be present and will fade in time. Cold compresses can be used to reduce swelling, and you will need to keep your head elevated as often as possible.

Patients must stay home from work for a time and must avoid physically taxing activities for several weeks. Any sutures will be removed during a follow-up appointment, where Dr. Rau will ensure that healing is progressing properly.

How Much Does Surgical Jawline Contouring Cost?

To determine the price of surgical jawline contouring, many aspects of the procedure are taken into account. The exact procedure chosen affects cost, as do the techniques utilized, the amount of tissue removed, the anesthesia that was administered, and the total surgery time.
