Breast Augmentation Redlands

Conveniently located to serve Riverside, San Bernardino, and Redlands

Breast augmentation, or breast enlargement, uses breast implants to increase the size of the breasts at the same time that the surgeon reshapes the breast. At Rau Plastic Surgery, we regularly perform breast augmentation for Riverside patients to help them achieve their beauty goals.

Breast enlargement is an incredibly popular plastic surgery option. This procedure is usually adopted by women with small breasts, women who have an asymmetry between the breasts, or women who have lost volume after pregnancy and/or nursing.

Dr. Todd Rau is an excellent choice for your breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Rau, an acclaimed board-certified plastic surgeon, has received a number of honors for his work in the cosmetic field and has numerous satisfied patients.

Choosing the Best Breast Implants for You

Breast implants come in a number of sizes, shapes, types, and textures, all of which will be discussed during your consultation. The decisions you make regarding these will determine the way that your breasts look and feel after breast augmentation surgery.

When it comes to size, bigger is not always best. Large breast implants are suitable for some patients, whereas some patients prefer small breast implants. The most important factor in choosing a size is taking into account your frame and what fits naturally.

Round implants and teardrop, or anatomical, implants are both available, and each has its own pros and cons. Smooth and textured breast implants are also options that should be discussed as part of your consultation with Dr. Rau.

Breast Implant Types

One of the main choices that patients must make for their breast augmentation is the type of implant they would like. Saline implants are filled with a saline solution, whereas silicone implants are filled with silicone gel. Each type has its own benefits and potential drawbacks.

A third option, gummy bear implants, has become incredibly popular with patients. This type of silicone breast implant is filled with a highly cohesive gel, classifying it as a form-stable implant.

When gummy bear implants rupture, they do not leak like other implants do. Instead, they retain their form and shape, and the gel stays within the implant instead of escaping into the scar tissue capsule around the implant.

Combination Breast Surgery

A combination procedure called the breast augmentation with lift is often utilized to enhance the breasts in multiple ways simultaneously. This option pairs a breast lift with implants to reduce sagging while increasing volume and projection.

Procedure for Breast Implants

Breast augmentation surgery generally lasts between 1 and 3 hours at our Redlands, CA, plastic surgery office and can be conducted on either an inpatient or outpatient basis using either a general or local anesthetic coupled with sedation. There are three different types of incisions used to cut into the breast, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages:

  • Trans-axillary approach, where an incision is made through the armpit.
  • Infra-mammary approach, where an incision is made in the natural crease under the breast.
  • Peri-areolar approach, where the incision is made at the juncture between the areola (dark skin around the nipple) and the natural skin.

Regardless of the approach, once the incision is made, Inland Empire plastic surgeon Dr. Rau gently pulls the skin away from the muscle and soft tissue and creates a pocket either in or below the pectoralis major or between the muscle and the breast gland tissue.

A breast implant made of a silicone outer shell is inserted into the pocket and centered beneath the nipple. The breast implant is slowly filled with a saline solution until the desired size is reached. When silicone breast implants are used instead of saline implants, the silicone implants are inserted pre-filled with their silicone gel material.

Dr. Rau closes the incision with sutures, and the area may be draped with bandages. Drainage tubes may be inserted to help remove excess liquid over the next 1 to 2 days. The breast implant surgery generally lasts between 1 and 3 hours.

I TRUSTED MYSELF AND CHOSE THE BEST SURGEON AROUND.
The reason why I chose Rau Plastic Surgery and Dr. Todd Rau for my breast augmentation and breast lift was because he truly took the time to listen, address, and advise me with all the information I needed for surgery and to change my appearance in the way I desired. Not only was he local, but his prices were extremely affordable with many options in order to help finance if that is what I decided to do. His staff is ALWAYS professional and friendly. Recovery from Breast Augmentation Surgery

There is the possibility of infection following any surgery. Inland Empire plastic surgeon Dr. Rau will likely prescribe antibiotics to avoid infection in addition to any pain medication. Bruising and swelling are common following breast augmentation surgery, particularly around the nipple area, and will subside slowly over 3 to 5 weeks. Patients may be required to wear a surgical bra for a while to support the breasts during recovery. Patients are encouraged to get up within the first 24 to 48 hours. Stitches are removed in 7 to 10 days, and normal activity is resumed in roughly 2 weeks. However, strenuous activity and direct stimulation of the breasts are discouraged for up to 4 weeks.

Scars from breast augmentation surgery are permanent but are usually placed as inconspicuously as possible. They do fade over a period of 6 to 9 months. Patients may experience a change in nipple sensation. Breast implants may also make performing and reading mammograms more difficult. Pregnancy can affect the long-term stability of breast implants. Be sure to discuss all the alternative surgical options with Redlands plastic surgeon Dr. Rau to make the best choice for you.
