5 stars
Dr. Rau was my 3rd consultation for a mommy make over. I was referred by a friend that had worked with him on a surgery. She had said he was humble and kind and treated the staff and pt with respect and dignity. My other two consultations just didn’t feel right. The Dr. was rude or the price was too high. After meeting with Dr. Rau I knew he was the one. He took his time explaining things to me. He was kind and caring. I’m am so happy with my results. The whole experience was great. The surgery center was excellent as well. Best money I ever spent! Thank you Dr. Rau.

Best-Suited Candidates

Women best suited to undergo a mommy makeover should:

  • Be physically, emotionally, and mentally healthy
  • Be non-smokers (for at least six weeks before surgeries)
  • Have no existing health complications that could adversely impact recovery from the procedure
  • Have realistic expectations from the operation
  • Have reached a stable and satisfactory weight after childbearing

During a consultation with Dr. Todd Rau, candidates will learn more about the procedures that can be included. They can then customized their mommy makeover to suit their needs and goals.

Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mammoplasty)

In many cases, breastfeeding can leave a new mother lacking in breast volume. The breast augmentation procedure restores or enhances breast size by inserting silicone or saline breast implants.

A tiny incision is made in one of three locations: around the areola, in the armpit, or in the breast crease. Through the incision, the implant is placed into a pocket made in the tissues either under or over the pectoral muscle. The incisions are then closed using sutures.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Once breastfeeding is complete, the breasts often lose their shape and perkiness. Sagging is frequently present. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a procedure that removes extra skin and tightens the surrounding tissues to address drooping and restore perkiness.

Incision options include the donut incision (two circles around the areolae), the lollipop incision (a circle around the areola and a vertical line down to the breast crease), and the anchor incision (a lollipop incision with a curving horizontal incision across the breast crease).

Once the chosen incisions are made, the breasts are reshaped by lifting the breast tissues, repositioning the nipple and areola, and removing extra skin. Finally, incisions are closed with stitches.

Breast Lift with Implants (Augmentation Mastopexy)

When breastfeeding results in sagging and a loss of volume, patients can correct both problems at once with augmentation mastopexy. This combination of breast augmentation and a breast lift removes excess skin and inserts saline or silicone implants. Typically, the augmentation aspect of the procedure is performed first, followed by the lift.

Breast Reduction

During pregnancy, the breasts grow. In some cases, after breastfeeding, the size of the breasts is larger than before pregnancy. Oversized breasts can lead to a variety of physical and social issues, including chronic pain, rashes beneath the breasts, embarrassment, unwanted attention, and difficulty finding clothes that fit properly.

A breast reduction removes excess skin, glandular breast tissue, and fat to restore a more proportional breast size for the frame. The incisions made are similar to those of a breast lift. At the end of the procedure, incisions are closed with stitches.

Abdominoplasty

After childbirth, the skin often has trouble shrinking back down to fit the new contours of the region. Childbirth can also result in diastasis recti, a condition in which the muscles of the abdominal wall have weakened and separated. Excess stubborn abdominal fat is common, and stretch marks may also be present.

Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, can address all of these issues, resulting in a toned and flat abdomen. It involves a curving horizontal incision from hipbone to hipbone in the space between the navel and pubic hairline. This incision can easily be hidden with a swimsuit. An additional incision is sometimes made around the navel.

Through these incisions, weak abdominal muscles are tightened and rejoined with internal sutures. Extra abdominal skin is removed, which often erases stretch marks. Excess fat is also suctioned out. Finally, the incisions are sealed with sutures.

Liposuction

Following childbirth, pockets of impossible-to-get-rid-of excess fat are left over in several areas of the body. Liposuction, also simply called lipo, suctions out this fat to contour the body, helping to achieve a slimmer appearance.

During lipo, a small incision is made in the targeted region, and then a thin tube called a cannula is inserted. This is used to loosen the fat cells from surrounding tissues. Medical suction is administered to remove these fat cells.

Recovery After a Mommy Makeover

You will be transferred to a treatment area immediately after the operation, and your vitals will be tracked. Gauze and other dressings may be placed over the incisions.

Once you return home, the recovery process will begin. This varies from patient to patient based on the procedures that were performed during your mommy makeover surgery.

Plenty of rest will be necessary. Swelling, tenderness, and bruising are common side effects of the surgery, and pain medication can relieve pain or discomfort. Wearing surgical elastic garments not only helps to support the operated areas but also minimizes swelling.

Minimal physical activity is ideal, and strenuous exercise should not be performed for at least six weeks. Avoiding any stretching beyond the shoulder height and ensuring you don’t twist/bend the abdominal region are also crucial.

Although changes are visible instantly, complete results can take three to six months to appear. This allows time for all swelling to fully ameliorate.

Cost of a Mommy Makeover

The overall price of your mommy makeover procedure will depend on a number of factors. The procedures chosen will play a role in determining cost, as will the anesthesia used, the techniques performed, and the total time needed to perform the mommy makeover.
